Sunday: Semana Santa
Stef and I went down by the river with a bottle of wine and some bread and cheese and watched the processions cross the Triana bridge. We decided this was the BEST way to watch the processions...you dont have to deal with the crowds, you have a great view and some treats :) Later we headed towards the cathedral to see the processions that way. Went into a local bar to grab a drink and continued to watch the processions. We were absolutely amazed at how many people were in the streets and how fashionable everyone was. It appears Sevillans put on their best of the best for the start of Semana Santa.
Monday: Rain
Monday was a rainy day in Sevilla, so Stef and I took the opportunity to rest up for the next few days and get all packed. Made for a relatively stressful day as we were still waiting for our train tickets for our european adventure. Without which, we would have stayed in Milan the whole week. Thankfully they came and we didnt have any issues. :)
Tuesday: Milan & Interlaken
Took the first bus to the airport at 5 am to catch our flight...so began the week of no sleep. We touched down in Milan and had a few hours before our train to Interlaken, so we got some lunch and walked around Milan. Everytime we were in Milan it rained, which was a little disappointing, but we were mainly there as a segway point between all of our other adventures. Milan's cathedral is absolutely gorgeous and has the same gothic type style as Sevilla. The city of Milan felt a lot like any other big city, in the states or in Europe. It is definitely highly fashionable though. They had this amazing shopping center that was indoors yet the roof was a huge skylight.
We then hopped our first of many trains to Interlaken. We didnt get into Interlaken until late, but even at night, I was in love with the city. Our hostel was the best I've stayed in. It was like a log cabin, but had an outdoor beer garden for during the summer and a club downstairs that supposedly gets pretty crowded. We immediately went to bed after our long day of travels and so that we could wake up early the next day.
Wednesday: Interlaken & Milan
Wednesday morning we woke up very early and Stef, Jen and I went.....HANG GLIDING. Probably the best way to see Interlaken and was such a rush. Definitely one of the best things I have ever done in my life an would recommend it to anyone(We used Hang Gliding Interlaken, our guide's name was Berni and he was AMAZING. Highly recommended). See the pictures, words cannot describe this fantastic experience.
After hang gliding we walked around Interlaken. It reminded me a lot of Colorado, someone told us Vail is modeled after Interlaken...so I guess that would make sense. The water was so incredibly blue and is fresh enough from the glaciers that you can drink it. Everyone in town was very friendly and I hope to some day go back to Interlaken. It is officially one of my favorite places in the world.
After Interlaken we headed back to Milan, we got in pretty late, but met up with Stef's friend from school Niki who would join us for the next few days.
Thursday: Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence
We headed to the coast of Cinque Terre to start our Italy adventures. They have this train that goes along the coast and you can either ride that from town to town or walk. We took the information lady's recommendation and walked half and rode half. We found a Little Mermaid rock and waited for the tide to go down a bit to climb up it. The view was beautiful and people started taking pictures of us. We felt like celebs ;)
After Cinque Terre we headed to Pisa to see the tower. It was a short trip, but we had the best gelato I have ever had in my life. Despite everyone saying it leans and seeing pictures, its so much more realistic to see in person and is amazing how much it really leans.
After Pisa we headed to Florence. Went out to dinner and got some homemade pasta. Jen and I went out after that to a bar close to our hostel. We met a group of students who were studying in Florence so they told us a bit about it and showed us a few bars.
Friday and Saturday: Florence
Friday morning we met up with Jen's friend who is studying abroad in Florence. She took us to this awesome breakfast place and then gave us recommendations on places to go. She left for Paris that day so she couldn't stay with us. We went to the leather market and I got a jacket :) all 5 of us got a jacket so we talked him down 65% of the original price. What a steal! Then we went to the Duomo (Cathedral) and then walked down by the river and ate some more food(too hard to resist eating in Florence!). Then Stef and Niki left for Rome and Jen, Calli and I walked up to Piazza Michael Angelo. The view was the best in the city and theres a replica statue of David. It was probably the best stop in Florence.
Friday night we went out to some of the recommendations Jen's friend gave us and then went to a local disco that these guys in the air force from the states showed us to. It was a fun, but late night.
Saturday we woke up early to check out of the hostel and then went to the Art Museum (Academia). And saw the original David statue. There was an hour long line that we had to wait in to get in, but it was well worth it.
We then hopped a train back to Milan for the night so that we could catch our early morning flight. (woke up at 2 am this morning...ahh)
Overall it was a great trip. Exhausting, but so glad I did it. It's good to be back in Sevilla. I have a lot to do this week, but Friday we leave for Barcelona. Hillary will meet us there so it'll be a lot of fun to see her again.
Ciao!
